Description	:	Steve "Jackleg" Brown, Sr., died on Monday, May 24, 1993 in John Randolph Hospital. Born in Emporia, Va to Hungarian parents John (Brancayz)(Branczeisz)and Elizabeth Sabo (Szabo) Brown. He was a retired Fireman and member of Powell Creek Hunt Club. He married Hazel Beatrice Oliver on July 16, 1934 in Emporia, Va. They lived in Hopewell while he worked at the Silk Mill. Brown, Jr., Robert Edward Brown, Vincent Allen Brown and Frances Brown Butler. Steve's siblings were Sandy Brown and Elizabeth Brown Giambra, (Bridgeport, CT), Johnny Brown (Baltimore, MD), Katherine (Katie)Strickland and Mary Strickland (Erwin, TN), Nora Hogarth (Hopewell, VA) and Vincent Brown (Emporia, VA). He also had 6 granddaughters, 7 grandsons, and 10 great-children. (pulled from his OBIT) Our Granddaddy was a hard worker, a family man. From a Barber to Fireman, to Gardener. He worked putting on roofs, would go plow a friend's garden. He loved his family and was a good provider. He and Pearl "Meama" would take in relatives and friends, give them a place to stay for as long as needed. Would see him at the stove many a time cooking "something up". He was an avid hunter and acquired many good friends thru the Hunt Club.
