Steve was born December 4, 1946, in Salina, Kansas, to Clifford and Nyta (Weburg) Wallerich and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1965. Steve was born December 4, 1946, in Salina, Kansas, to Clifford and Nyta (Weburg) Wallerich and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1965. On March 12, 1966, he married Pam Cavanaugh at the Christian Church in North English. Together they had three children, Monica Lee, Steven Vincent and Shari Lyn. They divorced in 1982. Steve served in the U.S. Army from 1966 until 1968. He has worked for Sloan-Mohr Monument Company from 1968 until his passing. Steve enjoyed passing the time working on his trucks, helping out the staff at the café, and never passed up a chance to spend time with his family. His passion for precision was easily noticed on any project he laid his hands on, which included the many tombstones scattered across this area. Steve's talents were easily surpassed by his generosity and teddy bear demeanor. He was known by many to leave kisses for tips - Hershey's Kisses, that is. He marched to the beat of his own drum, and only his drum. He doted on his granddaughter like there was no one else. Survivors include two children: Monica (Tim) Littrel of Cedar Rapids and Vince (Amber) Wallerich of Grinnell; granddaughter: Ruby of Grinnell and brother: Marc (Pat) Wallerich of Kalaheo, Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Shari Lyn and parents: Clifford and Nyta. Memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Keokuk County Hospice. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Steve and his family.
