Description	:	Steven Jay Barnett, 58, of 514 N. Green, died at 11:47 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born Dec. 6, 1949 in Ottumwa to Melvin and Dorothy Hinkel Barnett. He married Diana Sue Fowler Dec. 28, 1970. A graduate of Cardinal High School in 1968, he served as a medic in Korea with the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Steve continued in the medical field, working for two eye doctors in Washington, Iowa. He moved back to Ottumwa, working for 4 years with the Wapello County Ambulance Service and then for 25 years for ORMICS as a paramedic. For the last 2 years, he was an EEG Tech/Sleep Lab at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.He loved spending time with his grandchildren, loved county music and Blue Grass music and his accordion. For the last 18 years he was a volunteer for the Octoberfest and was currently serving on the board. Surviving is his wife, Diana; four sons, Craig Steven (Rhonda) Barnett, David Eugene Barnett and Cody Lee Barnett all of Ottumwa, Toby (Christina) Barnett of Fremont; six grandchildren, Trenton, Cheyenne and Dakota Barnett, Rachel, Tara and Aaron Palmer; two great-grandchildren, Alison and Hayden; his parents, Melvin and Dorothy Barnett of Agency; two brothers, Daryl (Nancy) Barnett and Russell Barnett both of Ottumwa; three sisters, Judy (Jerry) Johnson of Agency, Jane (John) Yochum of Batavia, Leanna (Paul) Simpson of Topeka, Kan.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Gary Cradic officiating.
