Description	:	Steven John Rund, 65, of rural Laurel, Iowa, died at home on his deck on the beautiful afternoon of Sunday, May 22, 2022, the day before his 66th birthday. His favorite cat Watson and his favorite wife Mary were at his side. He fought a very private battle with lung cancer for the past two months, with the hope that the cancer drugs would buy him a few years of remission, but it didn't happen. Read More	Steven John Rund, 65, of rural Laurel, Iowa, died at home on his deck on the beautiful afternoon of Sunday, May 22, 2022, the day before his 66th birthday. His favorite cat Watson and his favorite wife Mary were at his side. He fought a very private battle with lung cancer for the past two months, with the hope that the cancer drugs would buy him a few years of remission, but it didn't happen. Steve was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on May 23, 1956, the only child of Gladys Marie Papesh Rund and John Cyril Rund. He graduated from South Tama High School, Class of 1974. He married Mary Hammill Kimberley in Tama, Iowa, in February, 1991, and they each became better people. He enjoyed attending the What Cheer Flea Market, endlessly looking at all the treasures, and going to the Old Thresher's Reunion at Mount Pleasant every year. He loved woodworking and building interesting things in his shop. He collected a lot of fun things, like Budweiser Beer Steins, insulators, belt buckles, John Deere Stuff, Green Apple Watt Ware, kerosene lamps, and most importantly, woodworking planes. He was in the process of building a hangar for all of his planes. Steve had a varied career; driving semis, working at both Concrete, Inc. and Con-Struct, Inc., working as mechanic at Southard John Deere Implement in Marshalltown, and most recently (and perhaps his very favorite job!) helping his friend John Beem with the harvest. Steve and Mary loved riding their Harley motorcycles for a lot of years, taking pictures of all the 100 courthouses in Iowa [yes, there are 100, Lee county has two]. He had also recently restored a 1962 Chevy pickup. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Ann Marie Kimberley (Thomas) Clough of Urbandale; granddaughters, Juliette Marie Novak Clough and Lilianna Carole Clough; brother and sister-in-law, David and Kay Schmidt of rural Whitten; nieces and nephews; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and John Rund; stepfather figure, Tom White; aunts and uncles; and many close friends. For those wishing to say their final good-bye to Steve, visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Union Community Church in Union, Iowa. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, rural Union. Steve will be wearing jeans and a red plaid flannel shirt. Hoping you will do the same, 'cause you know he'd laugh at you if you showed up in a suit. Casket bearers were John Beem, Thomas Clough, Ben Schmidt, Dan Schmidt, John Schmidt, and Tony Schmidt. Honorary bearers were David and Kay Schmidt.
