Description	:	Steven J. "Steve" Kominek, 50, of Colorado Springs, formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at his home. Steve was born March 11, 1960, in Lincoln, Neb., to Darrell and Helen (Hemberger) Kominek. On Aug. 8, 2008, he married Patricia Murray in Virginia. Steve was born March 11, 1960, in Lincoln, Neb., to Darrell and Helen (Hemberger) Kominek. On Aug. 8, 2008, he married Patricia Murray in Virginia. Survivors are: wife, Pat Murray-Kominek; his father of Kearney; sister, Barbara Hoyt and her husband, Steve, and nieces, Sara and Shelby, of Minden; mother-in-law, Ursula Meininger of Ober-Ramstadt, Germany; brother-in-law, Thomas Meininger; and a host of friends and relatives. He grew up in Kearney where he spent the first 20 years of his life. He went to Park Elementary School and graduated from Kearney High School in 1978. He graduated from The University of Nebraska at Kearney, with a comprehensive major in computer science and obtained his master's degree in computer science from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He was vice president for Northrop Grumman's Air and Missile Defense Systems in Colorado Springs at the time of his death. During his career with Northrop Grumman, Steve held a number of management positions in northern Virginia and Southern California. Prior to moving to Colorado Springs, he was sector director for Northrop Grumman. Steve held various director positions in Northrop Grumman spanning business development, capture and program management of complex systems development, integration, and operations contracts in a 28-year career with Northrop Grumman. Steve began his career with TRW Defense Systems Group in Redondo Beach, Calif., working the Peacekeeper Missile Targeting Program. He was an avid skier and loved to travel the world with his fur-babies (his dogs Cali and Dakota), eat great food and drink great wine. He returned to Kearney at least once a year to hunt with his dad. He moved to Colorado Springs two years ago. He was preceded in death by his mother and his uncle, Sherman Kominek.
