Read More	Entered from WPA records at the South Dakota State Historical Society- www.history.sd.gov. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Obituary STEWART WILLIAM LEREW - Cresbard Beacon - October 4 1918 Contributed by Dennise (Johnson) Harmon and Harold Way Stewart William Lerew, son of Andrew and Mrs. Elizabeth Mumper Lerew, was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania, Aug. 2, 1854. At the age of 21 years he moved to Somersford, Ohio. He was married Jan. 11, 1883, to Miss Naomi Jane Goodyear. To this union 9 children were born, 7 of whom are living. Mr. Lerew united with the Wesleyan Methodist church Jan., 1886 and was a faithful member for a number of years and was a most efficient Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was a member of the A. O. U. W. Lodge of Faulkton and the I. O. O. F. lodge of Cresbard. He died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 1918, at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 14 days. Mr. Lerew is survived by his widow and seven children; Will, Charles, Bert, James, Floyd and Eva, all of Cresbard and Mrs. Frank Helmbrecht of Dodge Center, Minn., a brother Alfred Lerew, besides other less near relatives. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, Rev. Sheldon, officiating. Interment was made in the DeVoe cemetery. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The headstone picture of Stewart & Naomi Lerew was taken in 1998 by relatives of Stewart & Naomi. They are buried in the Cresbard Cemetery contrary to what Stewart Lerew's obituary reported. Naomi's obituary states: "Funeral services were held at the Devoe church Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Rinearson and burial was made in the Cresbard cemetery." Two children of Stewart & Naomi are listed on the headstone as son & dau. These two children were originally buried on the family homestead. After the death of Stewart & Naomi the two children were exhumed and buried with their parents in the Cresbard Cemetery as remembered by living relatives who still live in the area.∼Parents: Andrew Murphy Lerew and Elizabeth Mumper. Interment was made in the DeVoe cemetery. ********** On 09 Feb 2018, Sis @ Find A Grave ID 47501846 provided the following: "We know the two children mentioned on the headstone were originally buried on the family farm in 1887 & 1896. They were later exhumed by family members and relocated to the Cresbard Cemetery and buried next to their parents, Stewart & Naomi Lerew. I know Stewart's Obituary states he was buried in the Devoe Cemetery but that is not where his headstone is. All of Stewart & Naomi's children except one (Ella Mae) are also buried in the Cresbard Cemetery. Stewart's mother Elizabeth Lerew is buried in Hope Cemetery; a very old cemetery with just a few headstones. The Lerew memorials should be in the Cresbard Cemetery."
