JONES Stiles Alva Jones was born to James L. and Annie Jones, January 8, 1885 at Goodwater, Alabama, and was called to his rest Tuesday morning, March 22, 1949, at the age of 64 years, 2 months and fourteen days. When he was a boy of fourteen, his father passed away and in 1908 his mother with her four children moved to Comanche county, Texas, to make their home there. JONES Stiles Alva Jones was born to James L. and Annie Jones, January 8, 1885 at Goodwater, Alabama, and was called to his rest Tuesday morning, March 22, 1949, at the age of 64 years, 2 months and fourteen days. When he was a boy of fourteen, his father passed away and in 1908 his mother with her four children moved to Comanche county, Texas, to make their home there. There he received his call to the ministry. In September 1908 he entered Harden Simmons University, graduating in June 1921, and from Southwestern Seminary in 1923. He was united in marriage to Lona M. Truitt, December 28, 1913. A baby girl, Frances Irene, came to bless this home (through adoption), Lona passing away in 1926. He was united in marriage to Ferne King, June 1, 1927. S. Alva Jones has for 35 years carried on his work faithfully and consistently. He served several student pastorates; his first resident pastorate being at Velasco, Texas. He was ordained to the Baptist ministry at his home church in Comanche county, Texas, in 1923. After leaving the seminary in 1923 he went directly to Burke, S. D., his first pastorate in the Northern Baptist convention. Soon the Lucas, S. D. and the North Gray School house were added to his field. He also held happy pastorates at Trent, S.D., David City, Neb, LeMars, Iowa, and Independence, Iowa, moving to Holdredge, Neb, August 1, 1947. This successsful pastorate was broken by his sudden departure. Services were held at the Mauer Funeral home, Le Mars, on Saturday afternoon, March 26 at 3:30 o'clock.
