Description	:	Death of Mr. S. S. Wick Mr. S. S. Wick died at his home in this city. Saturday, July 15th, after a lingering illness of nearly six years. The disease was an affliction of the nerves, wholly incapacitating him from labor from the first attack, but he kept his mental strength up to a few days before his death, and bore his suffering with great patience. The funeral was held at the house Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Rev. Aikman delivered the sermon, after which the Knights of Pythias bore their comrade in death to his last earthly resting place. Mr. Wick was born in Greenville, Pa , May 11, 1841. He learned banking in his father's bank in that city, and afterward became a member of the firm-Achee, Wick & Co. Later he accepted the position of teller of the First National Bank at Greenville. In the early '70's Mr Wick accepted a position as cashier in the Mills County Bank at Glenwood. In 1873 he was made receiving teller of Preston, Kean & Co's bank in Chicago, one of the strongest firms at that time in the city He remained with them four years, when he was called to Glenwood again to settle up some special business for the bank. He was again solicited by Preston, Kean & Co. to come back and return to his old place, where he remained until failing health compelled him to quit. February 2, 1885, he was made cashier of the Clarke County Bank and built up its business to a prosperous basis. He remained at the head of the bank for a number of years, but owing to other causes the bank quit business about eight years ago, but so careful and judicious had been Mr. Wick's management of it that the depositors were paid off in full at once and the business closed with high credit to all its officials. Mr. Wick was a man of the most exemplary habits of life. In business he was strictly conscientious and painstaking, doing only that which he considered just and right. He was possessed of a singularly clear insight, and his judgment was always to be trustedHis personal life was above reproach, and in the active years of his life was always found a progressive, energetic citizen. He was a member of the Osceola Knights of Pythias. On February 22, 1877, he was married to Miss Sadie Thoroughgood, of Des Moines. One son, Marvin, was born of the marriage, who with his bereaved wife, mourns the loss of loving husband and father. He also leaves three brothers-W. W. Wick, of Topeka, Kansas, A. L. Wick of Greenville, Pa., and Alfred [sic] Wick, of California-and two sisters, Mrs. Cotton and Mrs. J. H Little, of Portland, Oregon. Published in the Osceola Sentinel (Osceola, Ia.)
