Read More	MANSFIELD, Ohio — Stuart Phillips, 90, of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Muscatine, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at his home in Mansfield. Stuart Robert Phillips was born on November 7, 1919, in Muscatine, the son of Carl and Ethel Hines Phillips. On June 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Bernice Hansen in Muscatine. A proud World War II veteran, Stuart survived kamikaze and torpedo attacks while serving aboard the U.S.S. Rodman Naval destroyer. He was employed as a tool and die maker for Bendix Corp. of Kansas City, Missouri, until his retirement in 1982, when he and Bernice moved to Port Washington, Wisconsin. In 1990, they moved to Mansfield, Ohio, to be close to their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, as he loved nothing more than spending time with his family and pets. Stuart was a master gardener, always caught the biggest fish and would challenge anyone to a game of cards — and the only time he didn’t win was against his big brother, Fritz. Stuart will be dearly missed by his son, Robert Phillips and wife, Joellyn, with whom he made his home in Mansfield; his granddaughter Amelia ‘Amy’ Cooper and her husband, Travis, of Davenport, Florida; and his grandson, Benjamin Phillips of Novato, California; two great grandchildren, Elise and Beckett Cooper; two sisters, Evelyn Ford of Muscatine and Gwen Robertson of Clermont, Florida; and his sisters-in-law, Erma Phillips of Buffalo, Missouri, Mary Phillips of Davenport, Iowa, Marilyn Hansen of Muscatine and Odetta Carter of Slivis, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers, Carl (Fritz) Phillips and Norman Phillips.
