Hawthorne Dies at Piedmont Mrs. Sunie Alma Hawthorne died at her home, 18 Hayne Street, Piedmont, Saturday morning at 2:30 o'clock. Her death has cast a great gloom over the community of Piedmont for she has resided there for 25 years and during this time has made many friends and has been an ardent worker for the upbuilding of the community and the furtherance of Christian work. Hawthorne Dies at Piedmont Mrs. Sunie Alma Hawthorne died at her home, 18 Hayne Street, Piedmont, Saturday morning at 2:30 o'clock. Her death has cast a great gloom over the community of Piedmont for she has resided there for 25 years and during this time has made many friends and has been an ardent worker for the upbuilding of the community and the furtherance of Christian work. She was a member of the Baptist church and was identified with all of its organizations and enterprises. Mrs. Hawthorne is survived by her husband, J.E. Hawthorne; her father, Drayton Couch; one daughter, Mrs. J.F. Davenport of Piedmont; two sons, William Earle Hawthorne and Hayden Elijah Hawthorne; three sisters, Mrs Corrie Duncan of Greenville, Mrs Lida Barbre of Piedmont and Mrs. Mary West of Fork Shoals; three brothers, William Couch of Piedmont, Perry Couch of Pelzer and David Couch of Rock Hill. The funeral will be held at Piedmont Baptist Church, Rev. J.E. Graham officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. _____________________________________ When interviewed in 2014, Sunie's granddaughters recalled that thanks to her exceptional seamstress skills, Sunie was often the person in the community that people sought out when they needed new clothes to be made for their deceased family members. She was remembered as often working tirelessly late into the night sewing clothes for families living in and around Piedmont, SC. _____________________________________
