Description	:	YORKTOWN - Sunie Mitchem Wood, 103, was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at her residence. Sunie was born to the late Dorsey and Adelaide Mitchem on April 27, 1905. She graduated from Cobbs Creek High School and attended Longwood College. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was active in many church activities, until her health began to fail over the last few years. She was the oldest member of York Baptist Temple. Read More	YORKTOWN - Sunie Mitchem Wood, 103, was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at her residence. Sunie was born to the late Dorsey and Adelaide Mitchem on April 27, 1905. She graduated from Cobbs Creek High School and attended Longwood College. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was active in many church activities, until her health began to fail over the last few years. She was the oldest member of York Baptist Temple. Into her late 90's, Sunie enjoyed her flower gardening, reading, and visiting with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Waverly T. Wood; three brothers, Dorsey, Cary, and Vandorn; and four nephews, Wilford, Ed, Stanley, and Harry. She is survived by her daughters, Mamye Brown (Lloyd) and Susan Mullins (Allen); granddaughters, Deborah Robinson (Mark), Sheila Ketchem (Chuck), Holly Soles (Carl), and Phyllis Schaeffer (David); great-grandchildren, Seth, Emily, Tyler, Travis, Carly, and Ethan; niece, Anne Brooks; and nephew, Stephen Mitchem. The family offers a special thank you to the sitters, who took such loving care of Sunie, during her last few years of failing health. A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Amory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2 p.m., at Gwynns Island Cemetery, Gwynn, Va.
