Description	:	We are called upon this week to record the death of a noble and estimable lady of our city, the wife of county Treasurer William L. Porter, who died at 5 1/2 o'clock yesterday morning, March 16, 1886. The deceased was taken ill nearly five weeks ago with neuralgia of the stomach and bowels. Although seriously sick she was not considered dangerously ill, and every attention possible was given for the allevation of her sufferings. Read More	We are called upon this week to record the death of a noble and estimable lady of our city, the wife of county Treasurer William L. Porter, who died at 5 1/2 o'clock yesterday morning, March 16, 1886. The deceased was taken ill nearly five weeks ago with neuralgia of the stomach and bowels. Although seriously sick she was not considered dangerously ill, and every attention possible was given for the allevation of her sufferings. She lingered along, being about the same each day, not seeming to get any better or worse, until between 1 and 2 o'clock yesterday morning when she told her husband she was growing worse and must have help immediately. Her husband had set up with her till 12, when she seemed to be resting easy and thought he would lie down and take a short nap. He had scarcely gotten to sleep when she suddenly changed for the worse. He started after the doctor and was not gone but a few minutes, but when he returned she was nearly past speaking, only uttering a word or two more when she became unconscious, and quietly passed away without a struggle. Mrs. Porter's maiden name was Susan E. Clark. She was born in Clinton township May 9, 1852, and was united in wedlock to William L. Porter November 3rd, 1870. She was the daughter of James Clark, one of the pioneer settlers of Clinton township, who died in 1880, aged 78 years. The deceased had been a consistent and worthy member of the M.E. Church since 1880. She was also a member of the Daughters of Rebecca, Charity Lodge No. 86, I.O.O.F. of Clinton. In her death society loses an estimable and conscientious Christian lady, her 3 little children a kind and affectionate mother, and her husband a true and devoted wife. In their sad bereavement the husband and children - 2 boys and 1 girl - have the fullest sympathy of their many friends in Newport. Her remains will be taken to Clinton on the 2:05 train this afternoon, and interred in the Spangler Cemetery, west of that place. Newport Hoosier - 3/17/1886
