Hawk, whose death occurred at her home in Moravia, Sunday evening at about 6 o'clock. Rev. T. J. Zike, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was made in the Moravia cemetery. Mrs. Hawk, who was well and favorably- known in this and adjoining communities, is mourned by many. A kindly lady, she went about doing good. Although her death was not unexpected, yet it was a shock to her friends and relatives. She had been critically ill for several weeks. The deceased brought particular distinction to herself through her efforts as a leader in the women's society of the United Brethren, she having been its active president for some 17 years, and honorary president to the time of her death. During her years of service she had much to do with the erasing of the debt on the local church and was happy to assist in the burning of the mortgage a few years ago. OBITUARY Susan Ellen, daughter of Wm. and Delilah Angel was born near Blakesburg, Iowa, January 8, 1859, and died at her, home in Moravia, Iowa, March 9, 1941 at the age of 82 years, 2 months and one day. She was married to Frank P. Hawk, on March 2, 1884. To this union was born three children, Elvie Grover, Guy Raymond and Gladys May, who preceded her mother in death at the age of five years. Mrs. Hawk, with her husband, united with the United Brethren church under the pastorate of Rev. Hiddelson about the year 1919. To this communion she remained faithful. She gave largely of her time and energy into its service. For 17 years she acted as president of the Aid Society, accepting retirement only when strength became too small to meet the demands of the office. In recognition for her untiring service, she was voted honorary president for the remainder of her life. Much of the married life was spent on the farm northeast of Moravia. Nine years, however, they lived in Wyoming and four years they spent in Foster. They moved to Moravia in 1919. March 2, 1941, they observed their 57th wedding anniversary. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband; two sons, Elvie of Moravia, and Guy of Delta, Colorado; One sister, Mrs. John Smithburg of Moravia, and one brother, Joe Angel, of Blakesburg; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and her many neighbors and friends. I did find a discrepancy regarding the marriage date. Obit = March 2, 1884 and Iowa marriages listed it as Feb 26, 1884 (at least the same year) and the marriage place was in Monroe, Iowa (it said) I am not a directly related to her.
