"Mrs. Kontz came to America fifty-six years ago from Luxembourg. Six years and three months were spent in Jackson County, Iowa. Nearly fifty years ago the family moved to Sioux County, 1 mile east and 2 miles south of Alton, which place they homesteaded. The moved overland with a team of oxen. Noethe, January 12th, claiming in death another pioneer, Mrs. Susan Kontz, mother of Mrs. Noethe. "Mrs. Kontz came to America fifty-six years ago from Luxembourg. Six years and three months were spent in Jackson County, Iowa. Nearly fifty years ago the family moved to Sioux County, 1 mile east and 2 miles south of Alton, which place they homesteaded. The moved overland with a team of oxen. "In her failing health, she was moved to the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.H. Noethe, northeast of Sutherland, where she received everything that loving hands could do, but she kept growing weaker until death relieved her suffering at the age of 87 years, [illegible] months and ten days. "The body was taken to Alton for burial which took place Thursday, January 14, from St. Mary's church and the remains were laid to rest beside her husband who died in 1906. "Her death is mourned by three children, twenty-eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The children are: Mrs. A.H. Noethe, Mrs. P.M. Kontz of Alton and Nick Kontz of Orient, S. Dak. One son, J.P. Kontz, died Sept., 1913, and one child died in infancy. -- Contributed."
