She was born Jan. 16, 1950, in Crawford Nebraska to Robert Dale Powell and Ellen Dell (DeHaven) Powell. When Susan was 8-years-old, her family moved from Lusk, Wyo., to Chadron. She attended school in Chadron, graduating from Chadron High School in 1968. In August 1969, she married Mike Singpiel and moved to Rapid City, S.D. She was born Jan. 16, 1950, in Crawford Nebraska to Robert Dale Powell and Ellen Dell (DeHaven) Powell. When Susan was 8-years-old, her family moved from Lusk, Wyo., to Chadron. She attended school in Chadron, graduating from Chadron High School in 1968. In August 1969, she married Mike Singpiel and moved to Rapid City, S.D. From this union Susan had two boys, Christopher and Robert. In 1975, Susan and the boys moved to Chadron, and she started working at Babcock Insurance Agency. On Jan. 21, 1977, she married Gilbert Veskerna. In January 1978, they moved to a farm outside Ord. In June of that year Susan and Gilbert had a daughter, Sarah. Susan worked at the Comstock Bank as an insurance agent for four and a half years, beginning in 1978 until the bank closed. She then started working as an insurance agent for the Allen Dale Agency in Ord. In May 1986, Gilbert and Susan purchased Hillside Service and moved to Harrison. In 1991, Susan started working for the Trailside Museum at Fort Robinson. Susan worked there for 19 years, reaching the position of Museum manager. From an early age Susan enjoyed spending time in the outdoors with her family. Her love of the outdoors started with hunting and trap shooting with her father Robert Powell, and later traveling and camping trips with her husband, children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ellen Powell, and father, Robert Powell. She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Veskerna of Harrison; children, Chris Singpiel of Chadron, Robert Singpiel of Dalton and Sarah (Colby) McCoy of Chadron; siblings Carol (Scott) Malcom of Gering, Bob (Deb) Powell of Billings, Mont.; grandchildren, Soren Singpiel, Ellie Singpiel, Kayden Singpiel, Emily McCoy, Colin McCoy and Ethan McCoy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were Feb. 3 at the Harrison Bible Church in Harrison. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery.
