When two years of age her parents left Massachusetts, going to settle in the state of Illinois. She passed through many of the experiences and dangers of the pioneers, being often in danger from the Indians. Her education was received in a log school house. She grew to womanhood at Lamoile, Ills., where she was married to Kaniel Kiser December 21, 1851. To this union were born four children. Alice who died some years ago; Wilbur and Martha who now live in Sedgwick and Mary who died in infancy. She came to Kansas in 1882 where she has resided ever since the following year at Sedgwick. She passed away June 16, 1923 at the ag eof 90 years and 8 months. The immediate cause of her death being the effects of a fall on the 18th of May when she broke her hip. Since that time she had been confined to her bed where everything possible was done for her comfort but in spite of all this her suffering was intense and she desired to go. Thus has ended a long and beautiful life and again had been verifed the wisdom of Solomon in the saying "the hoary head is a crown of glory if it be found in the way of righteousness." In early girlhood she united with the Baptist church but becoming a member of the Methodist church at the time of her marriage. She helped in the building of the first church in her community. She has always found great joy in her Christian life and has continued to attend church services whenever possible, the last time being on Mother's day when she greatly enjoyed the service. She was a member of the home department of the Sunday school and took great interest in the work, always using the suggestions and helps in her daily devotions. Her husband, Daniel Kiser, died Nov. 9, 1910 at the age of 87 years. There are left to mourn her loss her son Wilbur and her daughter, Martha, together with one sister and two brothers and a large number of other relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the M. E. church by Rev. Fly, assisted by Rev. Harris. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery. From Newton Kansan, Newton, Kansas, Jun. 22, 1923, pg. 3; Mrs. Susan M. Kiser, widow of Daniel Kiser, died at her home in Sedgwick this morning about 1:30 after an illness of several weeks which followed an accident in which she sustained a broken hip. She had been in failing health for several months, however. Mrs. Kiser was 90 years and eight months old. She leaves a son Wilber Kiser and a daughter, Miss Mattie, both of Sedgwick. The kiser family has been residents of Sedgwick for more than forty years and has long been esteemed among the most highly respected people of the community. The funeral will be held at the Methodist church at Sedgwick of which the deceased was a member, on Monday morning at 10:30, and she will be laid to rest in the family lot beside Mr. Kiser in Hillside Cemetery.
