Description	:	Susan McElhenie Teeters, the second child of John and Sarah McElhenie, was born in Medina county, Ohio, February 28, 1842. At the age of 12 years she removed with her family, and in route to Missouri in a covered wagon, stopped to visit Uncle James McElhenie in Steuben county, Indiana, proceeded no farther west, remaining with relatives. February 23, 1864, Miss McElhenie, having grown to maidenhood, was united in marriage to D. Benton Teeters, who had located here from Sandusky, Ohio, when he was about 12 years of age. At the age of 12 years she removed with her family, and in route to Missouri in a covered wagon, stopped to visit Uncle James McElhenie in Steuben county, Indiana, proceeded no farther west, remaining with relatives. February 23, 1864, Miss McElhenie, having grown to maidenhood, was united in marriage to D. Benton Teeters, who had located here from Sandusky, Ohio, when he was about 12 years of age. The marriage occurred in Camden, Mich. They settled at once on the farm known as the "Old Homestead," in Clear Lake township. As blessings to the home, nine children were born, all living – seven girls and two boys. Mrs. Teeters husband, David Benton Teeters, preceded her to the "promised land," May 11, 1925. Since his demise, she has lived with her children. She, with her husband, were of religious inclination and training, being Communicants of the United Brethren church in earl life. June 25, 1876, they were both baptized into the reorganized church of Latter Day Saints, by Elder Columbus Scott, now of Lamoni, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Teeters marched along the highway of life, in perfect consistency. No deviation occurred in their religious pathway, and their cup of domestic bliss was full, "e'en down to old age." Their character is, doubtless, engraved in immortal registry before the throne. She maintained a very youthful and alert exuberance to the very late period of her life. Her eyesight and hearing were impaired, latterly. Confined to her bed about three weeks, she said she had neither ache not pain. The beautiful faith in the gospel of Christ was hers. She passed up the shining way February 19, 1927, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 19 days. The sixty-third anniversary of married life would have been observed February 23, 1927. She leaves in shadow of loneliness, nine children; Mrs. Willard Housman, Fremont, Ind.; Mrs. William Ackerman, Magnolia, Miss.; Orpha Teeters, Ashley, Ind.; Mrs. Aden Seely, Angola, Ind., at whose home Mrs. Teeters passed away; Mrs. George Foster, Fremont, Ind.; Mrs. Clint Whitlock, Clear Lake township; Mrs. Ed McMurry, of Clear Lake Township; Mrs. Chester Chapin, Fremont, Ind., and Damen Teeters, of Fort Wayne, Ind. Two brothers, E.O. McElhenie, Battle Creek, Mich.; Arklow W. McElhenie, of Arkansas. Two sisters, Mrs. Mariah Geedy, Huntington, Ind.; Mrs. Chas. Douglass Smith, Fremont, Ind. She leaves also 29 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, a long line of relatives and a wide circle of friends. The funeral was conducted from Saint’s Chapel, Clear Lake, Monday, February 21, 1927, at 11 o’clock. Rev. S.W.L. Scott, of Coldwater, Mich., delivered the address. Grand-daughters were flower bearers, and grandsons the pallbearers, and Mr. Klink, of Angola, in Charge. Burial by the side of husband in the Teeters cemetery.
