Description	:	Susan Miram Howlett, oldest daughter of Lambert and Mettie (Rold) Howlett, was born in Fairview township, Shelby county, Iowa on July 1, 1870 and died at her home February 11, 1955 at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 11 days. On October 20, 1880, she was united in marriage to John A. Lee who preceded her in death September 15, 1922. To this union six children were born one son, Alvin died in infancy. She is survived by one son Virgil E. of Harlan, four daughters, Mrs Ida (Clarence) Johnson, Mrs C.E. Sorenson, both of Harlan, Mrs Lettie (Arthur L.) Anderson of Harlan. Twelve grandchildren, one sister, Effie Howlett, two brothers, Jesse and Clarence Howlett, all of Avoca. All of her 84 years were spent within a distance of three miles of her present home where she moved when she married. In her early years, she attended Cuppy's Grove church and has always lived a quiet Christian life. During the years when trained nurses were few, she was often called to the bedside of her neighbors and friends when a new life was ushered into the world or someone was near death. Funeral services were held at the Cuppy's Grove Altamont Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. howard O. Remmich officiating. Pallbearers were Donald Andersen, Darwin Andersen, Alvin Lee and John Lee, all grandsons and Wilbert Nelson and Harold Howlett, nephews. Burial was in the Cuppy's Grove cemetery.
