Her father was a wealthy farmer and her mothers home had been in Maryland. Susan had many brothers and sisters. She had an older sister Betsy. Her brothers, Andrew, Peter and David lived in Iowa. Read More	Susan MOATS was born in Washington Twp., Franklin Co., Penn. 1 Jan 1800 - died southeast of Elgin, Iowa. Her parents: Simon MOATS - Christena FRYE, came from Germany or Alsace-Lorraine. Her father was a wealthy farmer and her mothers home had been in Maryland. Susan had many brothers and sisters. She had an older sister Betsy. Her brothers, Andrew, Peter and David lived in Iowa. Andrew came to Iowa shortly after the Blackhawk war. He lived at first in the Eastern part of the state. Many were the stories he told of those pioneer days. It was a delight to listen to his humorous tales of the early days. One of Susan's sisters married a man by the name of LARIED and lived in Ohio. Susan was a willing helpmate to her husband and bore her share of the load. She was a member of the Evangelical church. She died at the ripe old age of 95 years and 10 months and nine days. Was said to have 58 grandchildren and 105 great-grandchildren at the time of her death. Her father lived to be 99. Four generations of decendants attended her funeral. Hers was a long and useful life.
