Scurr Dead - Well Known Gilman Woman Succumbs to Paralysis Mrs. Susan Scurr, wife of Joseph H. Scurr, a well known and old resident of Gilman, died Saturday night at 10 o'clock of creeping paralysis, following an illness of several months. For a few years, prior to 1904, Mr. and Mrs. Scurr made their home in this city at 207 West State Street. Mrs. Scurr is an aunt of Mrs. E.W. Harmon, 307 North Fifth Street. Susan Stevens was born in Belmont county, Ohio, Oct. 4, 1834. In March, 1859, accompanying her sister, the late Mrs. J.B. Scurr of this city, she moved to Illinois, and on Oct. 18, of the same year, she married Joseph H. Scurr. In 1868 Mr. and Mrs. Scurr moved to this state, settling on a homestead four miles southwest of Gilman, where they lived for seven years. They then moved to a place in the western edge of Gilman, where they lived until 1889. In the meantime they had lived in Grinnell one year, and later in this city. Since 1904 Mr. and Mrs. Scurr had lived in Gilman, at the home in which Mrs. Scurr passed away. Mrs. Scurr became the mother of two children, one of whom, J. Harry Scurr, a prominent young farmer of Gilman, is living. A daughter, Ida, died twenty-nine years ago. The aged husband survives, as does also one brother, Cyrus Stevens, of Atchison, Kansas. Mrs. Scurr was a member of the Methodist church, which she joined in 1863. She was a most devoted wife and mother, and a kind neighbor and friend. A large circle of friends in Gilman, this city, and Grinnell will join in the deep sympathy felt for the family. Added 19 Mar 2018
