Hamman, a well known woman of Garden township who passed away at 7:00 o’clock Monday morning after a serious illness of only a few days. Mrs. Hamman’s maiden name was Susana J. Butler and she was born October 2, 1843, in Henry county, Illinois. She continued to reside in Illinois until 1857 when with her parents she moved to Smithland, Iowa. Read More	Boone County Democrat July 21, 1911 Yesterday afternoon from the Methodist church of Madrid was held the funeral of Mrs. A. Hamman, a well known woman of Garden township who passed away at 7:00 o’clock Monday morning after a serious illness of only a few days. Mrs. Hamman’s maiden name was Susana J. Butler and she was born October 2, 1843, in Henry county, Illinois. She continued to reside in Illinois until 1857 when with her parents she moved to Smithland, Iowa. In 1869 at Smithland she was united in marriage to A. Hamman. Soon after their marriage the young couple moved to Polk county, Iowa, where they remained for five years. From Polk county they moved to Garden township, Boone county, where they have since resided, a period of over 36 years. Five children were born to the union, all of whom are living. They are Martha A. Bane of east of Madrid, Geo. F, of Madrid; Milo G, of Jamison, Nebraska; Zoe of Madrid, and John J. of Arkansas. The deceased is also survived by one brother and one sister, John J. Butler and Mrs. Rebecca Smith of Smithland, Iowa. These relatives with the husband and father and a host of sympathizing friends are left to mourn. Mrs. Hamman had been in poor health for over twenty years but with one exception of intervals she was able to be up and around the home. Three or four days before her death she became worse and was compelled to take to her bed, continuing to grow weaker until her death, which occurred at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 8 days. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends gathered at the Methodist church yesterday afternoon to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased. The funeral sermon was preached by the pastor, the Rev. S.O. Douglass. The remains were interred in the Mt. Hope cemetery –Register-News
