This lengthy marriage partnership was halted however with the death of Mr. Wheelhouse, who passed away at his home here on June 15, 1928. Mrs. Wheelhouse still makes her home in Lennox and recently observed her 88th milestone. These early settlers were both natives of Germany. Mr. Wheelhouse was born at Weener, Ostfriesland, Germany, May 4, 1862. He grew to manhood there and served for three years and ten months in the German army, ranking as bugler during the entire period. Mrs. Wheelhouse was born Oct. 20, 1851. Prior to her marriage she was Susanna Mollenkamp. The couple was married May 13, 1877. Eleven years later, with their family, the couple sailed to make their new home in America and came directly to Lennox. Upon reaching this community they settled on a farm four miles southwest of Lennox, and later purchased a farm eight miles north of Lennox. In 1906 and 1911 the elderly couple made visits to their native land. In 1911 they moved to Lennox to spend their retiring years. Eight children were born to this union, namely: Mrs. E. J. (Winnie) Stratmeyer, who died in 1911; Mrs. John (Fannie) Stratmeyer, who succumbed in 1920; H. H. Wheelhouse, Albert, John, Henry, Peter and Sander Wheelhouse.
