Mrs. Blackburn was born July 10 [12], 1835 south of this city. She obtained her early education in the public schools of Fulton County. She has a host of friends in the county who were greatly shocked to hear of her death, altho her condition has been regarded as critical for the past two months. She is survived by two sons, Henry O. BLACKBURN and William BLACKBURN, and two daughters, Mrs. Letha SHELTON and Mrs. Mollie ROBINSON. Tombaugh _____________________ Published in the Rochester Weekly Republican, Thursday, July 29, 1920 DEATH OF SUSAN BLACKBURN - - Well Known Pioneer Woman Passes Away at 7:00 0'clock Tuesday Morning, Aged 85 Years. The death of Susan Blackburn, a well known pioneer woman, occurred at her residence, three miles southeast of this city, at seven o'clock Tuesday morning, following a lingering illness of over a year, senility and complications being assigned as the cause. Susan Alspach was born in Canal Winchester, Ohio; July 12, 1835, the daughter of Henry and Deborah Alspach. In 1854 she moved with her parents, two brothers and two sisters, to Fulton county, and on June 21, 1857, became the bride of Isaac Blackburn; deceased. To their union four children were born. They are Aletha Shelton, of Mt. Zion; Mrs. Mary Robinson, Rochester; Henry O., of Green Oak, and William E., at home. Shortly, following her marriage, the deceased, with her husband, removed to the Blackburn old homestead farm, on the Wabash road where, for the remaining 63 years, she continued to reside. Early in life she affiliated with the Methodist church and has since been a faithful follower of the teachings received. Besides her four children she is survived by two brothers, and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Miller, of; Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. Eliza Miller, of Macy; Sylvester and Ezra Alspach, of Rochester; 12 grandchildren and ll great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday afternoon at: 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Norris, of Culver, in charge. Burial will be made at Mt. Zion.
