Batchelor who passed away only last (May or June?). During the year 1891 the family left Red WIng Minn. and came down the river ins earch of a place to make their permanent home. Muscatine attracted them and the aged Mother who was with them epxressed a desire to remain here, but hoping to find a better place or at least to assure themselves that no place would be better for them, they moved on down teh river. They stopped at Burlington for a short time but finally returned all satisfied this should be their permanent home, and here they have lived for 40 years and have been a real part of the life of the community and the city. Mrs. Batchelor has been an active member of the Friends Church for over 30 years. She taught S.S. classes she solicited money. She was every ready for the most menial service, but she filled well some of the most important offices of the church, being an honorary member of the Pastoral body at the time of her death. However the thing which made her of real value to the church was her real Christian experience. Whatever might be the testing, she was every ready to pray or testify to the glory of God. She was in fact continually singing and praising the Lord wherever she was. Finally when through disease and the infirmities of the body everything else seemed to vanish, she would be alert when the name of Jesus was mentioned, God's word quoted, a familiar hymn sung, or a prayer uttered, often she would join in the the singing. Her own loved ones were especially near and dear to her but she loved everybody and no sacrifice was too great for to make for others. Her influence will go on indefinitely, not only in her own home and among her own loved ones where she was so loved and cherished but among the people with whom she worked or those she touched in any way. Her home became a haven of rest for many a tired body and her word has often prevented the discouraged soul from floundering and going down. Not only did she walk worthy of the Lord "unto all pleasing" as Paul asked the Colossians to do, but she seemed to especially have been "Strengthened with all might according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long suffering with joyfulness." For years she has not been well but three weeks of illness preceeded her death, which occurred about 2:30 Tuesday morning, February 17 1931. She leaves to mourn her going her faithful husband and two sons Loniel and Benjamine both of Muscatine, six grandchildren and a double niece and nephew, Inez and Charlie Batchelor, who seem a part of the immediate family. All of these were with her and with Pearl the daughter in law did all that human hands could do to make easy those last days. She also leaves other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral services were conduected by the Rev Viola Smith, at the Friends Church, Thursday Feb. 19- at 2:30 PM and the body was laid to rest in greenwood Cemetery.
