Her husband, Gosper Pixler, preceded her in death 29 years ago. She was a real pioneer and could tell many interesting facts of the early settlement of Iowa. The Pixler farm is the only homestead in Grand Meadow. In 1850 she came to Iowa with her parents from Point Marian, Pennsylvania, her birthplace. Only one house was seen on their western journey from Point Marian, to McGregor, Iowa. In 1860 she married Gosper O. Pixler. The following year they progressed a little farther westward and homesteaded in Grand Meadow. To them nine children were born, three sons and six daughters. One son died in infancy and two daughters, Maudie and Catherine, died when small, and because there were no cemeteries at that time, they were buried on the homestead. Two other daughters, Mrs. Mary Harvey of Grand Meadow and Mrs. Alice Moriarty of Washington, grew to womanhood and preceded their mother in death. She leaves two sons, Guy of Grand Meadow and Oscar of Kingsley, two daughters, Mrs. Urilla Lyle of Kingsley and Mrs. Blanche Smith of near Cherokee, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks of Bancroft, South Dakota, 33 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon with Rev. G.R. Gilbert of Pierson in charge. Interment was in Grand Meadow Cemetery.
