(From Wednesday's Daily) Mrs. Susannah Myers Huffman, aged 99, who for several years has been accorded the honor of being the oldest living woman in Wells County and the only living mother of a Civil War veteran in the county, passed away at one o'clock this afternoon, at the home of one of her daughters, Mrs. John Minnich, one and one-half miles southwest of Mt. Zion, where she has been making her home for some time. The aged woman had been confined to her bed only about two weeks, and her demise is attributed to complications due to her advanced years. On August 6th of this year she celebrated her 99th birthday anniversary, at the Minnich home where there was a gathering of the children and grandchildren. On that occasion there was taken a five-generation group picture including Mrs. Susannah Huffman, her daughter, Mrs. John Minnich, the latter's son, John Minnich, Jr., his daughter, Mrs. Edna Jamaison, and Mrs. Jamaison's little son, Keith Jamaison. Susannah Myers, as Mrs. Huffman was known before her marriage, was a native of Ohio, but early in her life moved to Salamonie township, Huntington County, where she and her husband, Jacob Huffman, deceased, spent most of their years of happy married life. Her husband preceded her in death, having passed away about 55 years ago. After his death she continued to live on her farm in Huntington county, just across the line a short distance from Wells County, until her advanced years caused her to accept the urgent requests of her children to spend her declining years in their homes, and for about twenty years she and lived most of the time with her children residing in the vicinity of Mt. Zion. Surviving her are seven children, and many grandchildren, who regarded her ever with deepest reverance[sic], and will cherish her memory as long as they live. The surviving children are Rev. Lewis Huffman, a Dunkard minister, residing near Mt. Zion; Ex-Sheriff George W. Huffman, of Mt. Zion; Elijah and Jacob Huffman, near Warren; Mrs. John Minnich, of Mt. Zion; Mrs. Robert Campbell, of Liberty Center; and Mrs. Sylvester Gephart, of near Warren. Mrs. Huffman was a devout christian[sic] and was a member of the Sugar Grove Dunkard church, near Mt. Zion. Funeral Friday forenoon at 10:30 o'clock at the Sugar Grove church. -------------------------- Warren Tribune September 17, 1909 Page 1, Column 4 "Family Reunions" .. mid column: The seventh annual reunion of the Huffman family was held at the Warren fair grounds, Sunday, Sep. 12 and quite a large number of friends and neighbors met with them in honor of the occasion. The weather man certainly did his part in making the happy event a success and contributed in no small degree to the good feeling and cheerfulness evident all sides. As usual with the Huffman reunions, the dinner was the feature of the day; that is it was before dinner time, but after that -- well about one hundred and sixty, hungry, happy reunionists had done their best to disfigure that particular feature and if you could have seen that long table about 1.30 you would certainly admit that they had been successful. Members of the family were present from Bluffton, Craigville, Decatur, Montpelier and those present from a greater distance were Mrs. Laura A. Stickney and Mrs. Laura E. Bahm of Springfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Austa Kennedy, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The oldest representative of the family present was Mrs. Susan Huffman who passed the ninety-third milestone in life's journey August 6, 1909, or in other words, "Aunt Susie," as she is familiarly known is just about four months older than the great state of Indiana, as our state will not be ninety-three years of age until Dec. 11, 1909. At the other extreme was Miss Esta, the eight weeks old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Huffman of Buckeye, Indiana, who was the most youthful member of the house of Huffman present. The entire set of officers was re-elected to serve another term, with the exception of the program committee which at the present time consists of the following, G. A. Bergman, J. F. Minnich, L. F. Huffman. It was decided that the next annual reunion would be held at Snyder Park, Springfield, O., but the selection of the date of the meeting is left to the members of the family, resident in Ohio and will be announced later.
