She was the only surviving member of the late Wallace family. She was born and brought up in Brecksville, and was well known and highly respected by all. ORPHA MAY MCCREERY, b. April 02, 1872. EDWARD DANIEL MCCREERY and SUSANNAH P. WALLACE: McCreery Family History by Marcia R. Snow Edward was the sixth child and the fourth son of David and Polly Johnston McCreery. I would like to be added to the list of descendants of Susannah Wallace McCreery. Edward and Susanna were my 2nd great grandparents through their son Silas, Silas's son Alfred, and Alfred's daughter Bernice Ruby (McCreery) Brawley. I am Bernice's daughter, Anita Brawley. Except for me, all are buried at the same cemetery Edward worked with a wheelbarrow in making the Ohio Canal. Later he had a sawmill at 14 Mile Lock. He used to make and annual visit to the "Hunt" over on the other hill. He would stay all day. The men used to send Mr. Hunt's daughter to 14 Mile Lock to buy whiskey at sixteen cents a gallon. Edward was known as a fighter, and sometimes as a bully. It is not known where Ed and Susannah lived after they were married, perhaps in the Wallace Homestead on Riverview Road in Brecksville, Ohio. In the late 1880's they lived in the McCreery home on Fitzwater Road, as Delpha McCreery Peterson, their granddaughter, told of going with her mother to visit the Grandparents and on the way back got out of the buggy and walked to her home on Brecksville Road. The McCreery home has been moved, from its original site on Fitzwater Road, back into the development in Oakhurst Circle. Edward and Susannah bought a home on Brecksville Road just north of Route 82 and south of the Stage House, where the BP Station is now, in the mid 1890's. Susie McCreery Birdsall remembers, vaguely, going to visit Grandpa Edward there and remembered the fireplace. In 1899, after Susannah died, Edward married her first cousin, Anna Newland. Anna was the daughter of Amos and Elnora Moses Newland. It is believed to have been a marriage of convenience. Edward died in his home at Brecksville Center and is buried in the Brecksville Center Cemetery. After Edward's death Cora McCreery Butler and Alma McCreery Babcock inherited their father's home, which was on the northeast corner of the intersection of route 21 and 82 at Brecksville Center. Edward's wife, Anna Newland McCreery, moved to a home on Cedar Road in Brecksville Center. Susie remembers going to visit Aunt Anna on Cedar Road. The following was related by Glenn Babcock about his Grandfather McCreery: "I remember particularly my Grandfather McCreery. That would be my Mother's (Alma) father, Edward McCreery. He came to Hinckley from Brecksville with his horse and buggy and had his saw and he was going to help build the new home. He watched the carpenters there for one day and then he went home and didn't come back. It was too fast for him. The old farm house, where Skyland Golf Course is now, was torn down and a new house was built. Susannah was the second child and daughter of Samuel and Emily Moses Wallace. She was born in Brecksville, Ohio. Susannah's family did not want her to marry Edward McCreery as he was known as a big bully who could lick anyone around. However she married Edward September 19th, 1855 five years after her father died. She attended a Church dinner, caught a cold and died of pneumonia in their Center home in 1897. She is buried in the Brecksville Center Cemetery. The following was found in a scrap book pasted on a page: February 11, 1897. (a 8 had been written over the 11) An old Resident of Brecksville Dies. Wonder what the source of " Cora Maria" was.] In 1910 and 1920, Wallace Plinn McCreery and family appear in California census.
