She was born Dec. 20, 1896, at Rose Hill, the daughter of Howard and Claribel Simons Ekleberry. She was reared in South Dakota. She married Alfred B. Havens Dec. 7, 1917, in Bonesteel, S.D. They lived in South Dakota until 1937 when they moved to Central Iowa. Before moving she had taught in rural schools in South Dakota. They lived at Montour from 1937 to 1941 and then farmed near there until moving to Gilman in 1956. She served as town treasurer for several years. She is survived by six daughters, Fern (Mrs. Harold) Halsted, State Center; Betty (Mrs. Delbert) Cooper, Marshalltown; Marjorie (Mrs. Dean) Butters; Claribel (Mrs. William) Byers, Butternut, Wis., Gloria Fitzgerald, Happy Camp, Calif., and Patricia (Mrs. Dale) Wiese, Decorah; two sisters, Rowena Ekleberry, Loveland, Colo., and Claribel (Mrs. Gordon) Keller, Spencer, Neb.; a brother, Lowell Ekleberry, Spencer, Neb., 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974, also by a daughter, June Shank, and three grandchildren. Mrs. Havens was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Gilman Senior Citizens. The Pursel-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and friends may call there until 9 a.m. Saturday.
