Born August 6, 1918, she was the daughter of Dr. William Arthur Jeffress and Fannie Dorsey Price Jeffress and widow of William Clifton "Bill" McCormick Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and son, Dr. W. C. McCormick, III, a sister and her husband, Sarah B. Jeffress Alexander and James G. Alexander Sr. and sister-in-law, Ann Massie McCormick Rader. Susie is survived by a grandson, W.C. "Clif" McCormick, IV, and wife Kristine, and their three daughters, Gwenyth Anne, Isabel Rowan and Joselyn Abigail McCormick, of Roanoke; grandson, Michael Garland McCormick of Arlington, a daughter-in-law, Andra Wright McCormick of Tucson, AZ; two nephews, James G. Alexander Jr. and Thomas J. Alexander and wife, Jean Ann of Fairfield; niece, Diann Rader Snyder and husband, Ray L. Snyder of Waynesboro with whom she resided since October 2007; great-nephew, Dr. John "Jay" A. Snyder from Johnson City, TN; great-niece, Susan E. Snyder of Waynesboro; brother-in-law, Hugh A. Rader Jr. of Roanoke and a special cousin, Byrd Garnett of Rice. Susie attended Longwood College and then graduated from Madison College. She was an active member of Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Steeles Tavern, for most of her 90 years. She taught Sunday School in the Primary Class for many years and was a member of the Business Women's Circle and was Chairman of it for many years until it merged with other circles to form the Women Circle, of which she was still active. She was presented with honorary life membership to the Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church (USA) in January of 2006 for her long dedication and service to the Presbyterian Women. She taught second grade in Augusta County for 42 years, mostly at Spottswood High School, Spottswood and Riverheads Elementary. She also belonged to the Green Hills Garden Club since 1948, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, for outstanding women educators, Riverheads Elementary Retired Teachers Group, Augusta County Retired Teachers Association and State of Virginia Retired Teachers Association. In addition to these activities, she was a member of several Bridge Clubs and the Canasta Group, as well as the "The Spiffy Lunch Bunch". Susie loved to travel, which she did extensively and enjoyed her life to the fullest. She was a pillar of strength to all who loved and knew her and has often been described as a grand lady and a priceless person to know because of her joy in life, her faith, positive attitude, sincerity and fight in her recent battles of health issues. The family will receive friends at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Wednesday from 7-9 pm and other times at the home of Diann and Ray Snyder, 899 Shawnee Road, Waynesboro. A graveside service will be held at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Steeles Tavern on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Raphine Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Layne King, P.O.
