Sybil Joy (Simkins) Below was born on September 3, 1922 in Circleville, Utah to Angus and Louise (Elder) Simkins. She attended Provo High School and graduated in 1940. Read More	Joy Below, age 93, died on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, Iowa. Sybil Joy (Simkins) Below was born on September 3, 1922 in Circleville, Utah to Angus and Louise (Elder) Simkins. She attended Provo High School and graduated in 1940. After attending Brigham Young University for a year, she took a job with the Bell Telephone Company and later the Geneva Steel Company as a telephone operator. After a four year pen-pal courtship during World War II, Joy was united in marriage to Waldemar Will Edward Below on April 22, 1946 in her parent’s home in Provo, Utah. The couple moved to Walde’s home town where they raised their four children: Terry, Trudy, Tresa and Tracy. Joy was baptized on May 15, 1964 and along with her family became members of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Joy was blessed with the gift of sewing and knitting. Her creations were little gifts of love, from her own children’s’ clothing, to her grandchildren’s sweaters, to the beautiful banners for the church. After her children were grown she worked for Dr. Larry Richards and Dr. Wm. Gonda at the Hubbard Medical Center and the Eldora Hospital. She spent 23 enjoyable years as the Hubbard librarian. In her free time she served on the Hubbard Care Center Auxiliary and the LWML at St. Johns, giving a helping hand wherever needed. The Lord took Joy home on September 10, 2015 at the Hubbard Care Center. Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters Trudy (Dennis) Winter and Tresa (Eugene) Zoske and son Tracy Below all of Hubbard; daughter-in-law Carolyn (Below) Tysdahl; grandchildren Lance (Jessica) Below, Laura Dewhurst, Nicole (Frank) DeRogatis, Joshua (Melissa) Winter, Jacob Winter, Jason (Michelle) Zoske, Callie (Terry) Dykman, Samuel (Samantha) Zoske, Jordan (Lindsay) Below and Logan Below; 21 great-grandchildren; along with her Hubbard Care Center family. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walde, son Terry “Tex” Below, her sister Nedra Tucker and her brother Bob Simkins. Joy’s greatest joy in life was fulfilling her God-given role as a Christian wife, mother and grandmother. Let us give thanks to God for the life and memory of Joy Below.
