Description	:	Sydney Hubert Hanson, the son of Peter Christian (Chris) and Mary E. (Eliza Marie) Nelson Hanson, was born March 4, 1908 in Ellendale, Minnesota and died September 12, 1991 at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 8 days. Herb was baptized in the Lutheran Faith in Minnesota and confirmed at the Nazareth Lutheran church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Herb was baptized in the Lutheran Faith in Minnesota and confirmed at the Nazareth Lutheran church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He worked in a grocery store in Cedar Falls for a short time, then moved to Audubon where he was employed by his uncle, J. K. Jensen, as a painter. On December 27, 1927 Herb was united in marriage to Johannah Elizabeth Jorgensen at the Danish Lutheran Parsonage in Audubon. They moved to Oelwein, Iowa where he operated a grocery store for a short time before returning to Audubon where he worked at J.K. Jensen's Grocery store. He continued in the grocery business until 1936 when he became a hog buyer which he did for over 30 years. In 1958 he and Harold Summers purchased the Alfalfa Mill south of Audubon which they operated for 20 years. He owned ABC Loan Company in Audubon for over 30 years. Herb was a partner in Melville Farms and a partner in various other enterprises in the Audubon area. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Audubon and served as chairman on the church board. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Audubon and served as president. Herb was a 50-year member of the Audubon Lions Club. He received the Audubon Community Service Award in 1974. He was also a member of the Farm bureau; the American Dehydration Association; and a long-time cattle shipper of Operation T-Bone. Preceding him in death was his daughter, Ardis Hansen; an infant son; his great grandchildren: Miranda Rasmussen; Daniel and Emily Harrison; his parents; his brothers and sisters: D.Arnold Hansen, T. Elmer Hansen, Leonard Hansen, Lydia Hansen, Alta Nelson, and his foster brothers: Arlen Johnston and LeRoy Johnston. Survivors include his wife, Hannah Hansen, of Audubon; his daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Ron Rasmussen of Audubon. IA; his grandchildren: Nickoleen and Edward Wiederstein of Audubon; Pheobe and John Yencic of Overland Park, KS; Dirk and Julie Rasmussen of Hamlin, IA; Jennifer and Ed Harrison of Kansas City, MO; Sara and Bruce Rabun of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, U.S.A.; his great grandchildren: Anne, Ryan, David, and Betsy Wiederstein of Audubon; Krista, Amanda, Gretchen, Jonna Yencic of Overland Park, KS; Jerica, Danika, and Jim Rasmussen of Hamlin, IA; Melissa Harrison of Kansas City, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
