The organist was Marilyn Kriegel and special selections were "Sweet Hour Of Prayer" and "One Day At A Time." Casket-bearers were Paul Wagner, Jason Wagner, Nicholas Wagner, Thom Walker, Joshua Hohlen, and William Rhinehart. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Citizens Scholarship Foundation of BGM. The son of John James and Anna Baustian Doonan, Sylvanus was born February 26, 1913 at Deep River, Iowa. He received his education at Deep River, Searsboro, Malcom and Brooklyn Elementary Schools and Brooklyn High School. He was united in marriage to Ferrell Allene Keeney and they made their home in Brooklyn where he was a self-employed truck driver. They were the parents of two children, James Leroy and Jerry LaVerne. This marriage ended in divorce and on July 10, 1954 he was married to Edith Marjorie Hughes in San Francisco, California. They lived in Brooklyn where "Slim" owned and operated Doonan Repair for many years. He also drove a school bus for BGM Schools for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and a member of the Central Iowa Racing Association. "Slim" was an avid fan of stock car racing and went to races two or three nights a week. For a number of years he drove his own stock car, "#26", on several tracks in central Iowa. He also enjoyed going for coffee several times a day with his friends at the I-80 Restaurant. Mr. Doonan is survived by his two sons, James of Deer River, Minnesota and Jerry and wife Joyce of Grinnell; six grandchildren, Debra (Mrs. David) Miller of Amery, Wisconsin, Jeanne (Mrs. Scott) Satterstrom of Cold Spring, Minnesota, Teri (Mrs. Thom) Walker of Princeton, Minnesota, Michael Doonan (Karen) of Cloquet, Minnesota, Jill (Mrs. Paul) Wagner of Grinnell, and Jan (Mrs. Eric) Bailey of St. Cloud, Minnesota; twelve great grandchildren, Beckett and Katie Cordes, Erin and Eric Satterstrom, Joshua and Sarah Hohlen, Anne and Jennifer Doonan, Jason and Nicholas Wagner, and Katelyn and Rachel Bailey; and one niece, Diane (Mrs. William) Rhinehart of Oskaloosa. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 8, 1998, his parents, his brothers, Garland in infancy and Lewis in 1946, his sister, Marlene Newman in 2000, and a great-granddaughter Danette Michele Cordes.
