He died Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of seventy-four. Read More	The Dunlap Reporter Thursday October 17, 2002 Sylvester A. Greder was born September 22, 1928, the son of John F. and Hulda T. Hollander Greder. He died Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of seventy-four. Sylvester was born on a farm south of Denison then moved to the farm near Buck Grove at the age of five. He was baptized in Christ on November 11, 1928 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and later confirmed on March 29. 1942 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. He received his education in the Denison Community Schools, graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1946. February 7, 1952, Sylvester entered the United States Army, serving his country in the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge on January 30, 1953. On January 15, 1955, Sylvester was united in marriage to Lois Klink in Manilla. The couple made their home in Denison and were blessed with the birth of four children. Sylvester worked as a carpenter and in 1961, built his own home. In 1984, he retired from carpentry and purchased the family farm, retiring in 1995. Sylvester was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and the Denison American Legion Post No. 8. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed woodworking, farming, fishing and camping, especially at Lake Okoboji. Sylvester was a Dodger's fan and enjoyed watching them play baseball and loved dancing, especially polka. He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Virgil Hass; two brothers-in-law, Wallace Deiber and Melvin Hass. Survivors include his wife, Lois of Denison; two sons, John Greder and his wife Deon of Ricketts, Gary Greder and his wife Lisa of Denison; two daughters, Theresa Malone and her husband Leo of Dunlap, LaJune Ruch and her significant other Marty Lauer of Vail; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Greder and his wife Marie of Buck Grove; two sisters, Vernetta Hass and Bernadine Deiber, both of Denison; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2002, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for soloist Larry Boeck as he sang "Nearer, My God to Thee," and "The Old Rugged Cross," and for the congregational hymn "I'm But A Stranger Here." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Jacquelyn Hageman, Samantha Greder, Lisa Malone Cripps, Tiffany Ruch and Lois Greder. Those serving as pallbearers were James Malone, Terry Deiber, Tory Greder, Travis Malone, Gred Greder and Jacob Ruch. Military honors were provided by the American Legion Post No. 8 of Denison.
