Manatrey, 77 years old, one of the best known and most prominent residents of Creston for a number of years and formerly a widely known Adams and Union county farmer, died at 7:20 Monday morning at his home, 403 North Pine Street. Death followed an illness of six weeks. He was influential in all community, agricultural and business affairs and served as a director of the Cromwell State Savings Bank from the time it was organized in 1900. After moving to Creston, he became widely known as a man of exceptionally keen judgement in public and business affairs. Surviving are his widow, four children, Mrs. Carrie Buxton of Creston; Mrs. Etta Sammons, of Cromwell; William of Prescott; and G.E. of Topeka, Kansas, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon at the Christian Church and burial will take place in the Cromwell Cemetery, with Rev. E. E. Lister officiating. The body will rest at McGregor Brothers & Coens Funeral Parlors until 10 o'clock Wednesday forenoon and will then lie in state at the home until the hour of services. Mr. Manatrey was born April 22, 1854, at Toledo, Ohio. As an orphan at the age of four, he went to live with an uncle and aunt at Fairfield. On December 27,1877, he marred Miss Oila Van Ostrand at Fairfield and they soon went to a farm in Adams County between Prescott and Cromwell to make their home. Later they moved onto a farm near Cromwell in Union County, Thirteen years ago, they retired and moved to Creston. Mr. Manatrey was admired by all who knew him, friends declared, and was especially admired for his honesty and fair dealing in all business transactions. Creston News-Advertiser.
