Description	:	Sylvester Lester Houdek passed away peacefully on January 21, 2018, after a long battle with Dementia. He was 92 years old. Les is survived by his wife Jean of 71 years, son Marc (Anna) of Ely, MN, daughter Barbara of Tucson, son Brian (Nancy) of Ankeny, lA, and son Jeff of Rochester, MN, along with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. After High school graduation from Lime Springs, IA, Les joined the Navy as a radioman and served in the South Pacific during WW2. He then attended the University of Northern lowa where he earned BA and MA degrees. He... Read More	Sylvester Lester Houdek passed away peacefully on January 21, 2018, after a long battle with Dementia. He was 92 years old. Les is survived by his wife Jean of 71 years, son Marc (Anna) of Ely, MN, daughter Barbara of Tucson, son Brian (Nancy) of Ankeny, lA, and son Jeff of Rochester, MN, along with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. After High school graduation from Lime Springs, IA, Les joined the Navy as a radioman and served in the South Pacific during WW2. He then attended the University of Northern lowa where he earned BA and MA degrees. He taught high school in Shell Rock and Des Moines, Iowa, before becoming high school principal in Harmony, MN for 21 years. Throughout his education career, he positively touched the lives of many students. In 1979 he moved to Garden Grove, CA where he served as a planner and estimator at Marine Core base, El Toro. Les moved back to Minnesota after retirement, living in Prior Lake and Lakeville. He was a lifelong Methodist, always active in his local church. He loved to fish and do home repairs. It seemed he could fix anything. He was, without a doubt, the patriarch of our family and will be sorely missed. Funeral arrangements are through White Funeral Home, Lakeville, with services to be held on a date to be determined at the funeral home. There will be a private burial in Lime Springs, IA. A special thank you to Community Assisted living for giving Les years of excellent care.
