Description	:	Sylvia Hamilton, 93, of Colonial Vista, and an early day Wenatchee area resident, died Sunday morning, May 25, 1997, after a short illness, in Central Washington Hospital. She was born March 29, 1904, at Salyersville, Ky., to Shannon and Mary (Whitaker) Fletcher. They moved to Wenatchee in 1912, and she attended schools in the Wenatchee area. She was born March 29, 1904, at Salyersville, Ky., to Shannon and Mary (Whitaker) Fletcher. They moved to Wenatchee in 1912, and she attended schools in the Wenatchee area. She graduated from Entiat High School, where her folks had moved after purchasing an orchard. She married George D. Hamilton on Nov. 29, 1923, at Wenatchee. Sylvia loved to knit and crochet. She made many afghans for friends and bazaars. Her hands were always busy. She and her husband owned an orchard on Grant Road. Sylvia worked many years for Eastmont Pharmacy. She was active in the East Wenatchee Grange, being master one year and an officer in the state Grange. She was a charter member of the Eastmont Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a son and daughter, Richard G. Hamilton and Betty M. Taylor, and a daughter-in-law, also named Sylvia; two granddaughters, Suzan and Beth; six stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, George, in 1990, and a twin brother in 1993. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee. Additional information provided by: Bob Whittaker Sylvia Fletcher Hamilton's mother [Mary Whitaker Fletcher] is a sister to my grandfather. A granddaughter of Minnie Fletcher gave me the following: Atlanta Marshall, the mother of Sylvia and Salex Fletcher, was married to William "Will" Fletcher, who was the son of Meredith Fletcher, and Meredith was the son of “old” George Fletcher. They lived on Gun Creek, Magoffin County Kentucky. Will and Atlanta already had 3 children when the twins were born [Sylvia and Salex]. They were Minnie, Cassie and Kanoy. Shortly after the twins were born, Will and his friends were raising a barn and Atlanta spent the day cooking for all of them. That night she laid in the bed with the twins by the stove to keep them warm and she hemorrhaged to death in her sleep. She nearly rolled over on top of the twins, but they managed to survive. After Atlanta's death, Will couldn't care for the twins by himself plus care for the kids they already had, thus he let Mary Whitaker and Shannon (his brother) Fletcher adopt them, as they could not have children.
