Read More	Sylvia Haile Whisonant-Yellen died on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Born July 18, 1938 in Jenkinsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Gary "Buck" and Hazel Heron Haile. Sylvia graduated from Chapin High School, Limestone College, and held a Master's degree from the Medical University in Charleston. She was a Licensed Master Social Worker and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Sylvia was married in 1959 to the love of her life and father of her children, the late Joseph Smith Whisonant, Sr. She was married to the late Stephen J. Yellen, Jr. in 1990 and was his devoted caregiver until his death in 1994. She retired from Greenville Mental Health in 2004 as a social worker and therapist where her passion and devotion was to her patients and their well-being. Sylvia was awarded Employee of the year in 2002 by Greenville Mental Health for her outstanding career in Mental Health. After retirement she committed her time to assist in the care of her special needs grandson, Robert. Sylvia was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Action Council for Cross Cultural Mental Health and Human Services. She was an active advocate of special needs children with Autism, the mentally retarded and the mentally ill. She is survived by her children, Joseph Whisonant, Jr. of Greenville, SC, Mary Beatrice Mills of Columbia, SC, and John West Whisonant of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Caroline Whisonant, Joseph Whisonant, III, Elizabeth Mozelle Mills, Robert W. Mills, Jr. and J.C. Whisonant; brother, Robert Heron Haile of Chapin, SC; sister, Linda Haile Fauhl, Helena, MT; several nieces and nephews.
