Description	:	SYLVIA MARIE AWE November 19, 1924 - February 5, 2019 Sylvia Marie Awe, 94, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Creekside Place Assisted Living Community in Battle Ground, Washington. She was born November 19, 1924, at Hurley, South Dakota to Hans and Maggie Nielsen. Sylvia moved to Vancouver, Washington to be with family members after graduating from Hurley High School in 1943. Read More	SYLVIA MARIE AWE November 19, 1924 - February 5, 2019 Sylvia Marie Awe, 94, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Creekside Place Assisted Living Community in Battle Ground, Washington. She was born November 19, 1924, at Hurley, South Dakota to Hans and Maggie Nielsen. Sylvia moved to Vancouver, Washington to be with family members after graduating from Hurley High School in 1943. During World War II, she worked at canneries, a meat packing plant and the Alcoa aluminum factory. On June 1, 1949, Sylvia married Hugh C. Awe whom she met after the war. He died in 1962, leaving her to rear their three young daughters on her own. After his death, Sylvia returned to work at Jantzen Knitting Mills in Vancouver, Washington where she worked 23 years as a seamstress. She loved to sew, garden, crochet, quilt and do word puzzles. Sylvia is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Peggy Phemister (Phil) of Battle Ground, Washington, Debra Cushman (Lyle) of Vancouver, Washington and Barbara Mendiola (Mark) of Pocatello, Idaho; three grandsons, Jared Cushman, Brent Cushman and Nathan Cushman; and two great-granddaughters, Madeline Cushman and Penelope Cushman, all of Vancouver, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, parents and five siblings. A funeral service was on Monday, Februart 11, 2019 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington, with a reception following. A visitation preceded the service.
