Hospital, there entered into peaceful rest, Sylvia Winnifred Hirtle, R.N., eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hirtle. Miss Hirtle, who was 29 years and one month of age, was born at Conquerall Bank, where she received her early education, later attending the Bridgewater High School. In 1929 she entered Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, for training, later practicing her profession at the same hospital. Three years ago she returned home a helpless invalid, as a result of rheumatic fever. A year ago, Miss Hirtle entered Royal Victoria Hospital, at Montreal, where she received greatest medical attention and skill. She possessed a thoughtful and unselfish disposition and during all her sickness was very patient and her ready smile hid many a twinge of pain. During her sickness at home she was lovingly and tenderly cared for by a devoted family. A month ago she was removed to the D.M. Hospital, where she underwent a serious operation, from the first her condition was regarded as serious. Although conscious of the fact that the Angel of Death was hovering near, Sylvie, as she was known by all, bravely faced the end with great fortitude and strength of mind, putting her trust in the Lord and knowing Death could be the only relief from suffering. She is survived by her parents; four sisters, Grace, Pearl, Shirley, and Gloria, at home; two brothers, Stevie, whereabouts at sea unknown, and Roy, at home. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the Baptist Church, following a private service at the house. The service was conducted by Rev. Whitney, of Bridgewater Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Hymns sung were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Shall We Gather at the River." Interment was in the family lot in Maple Leaf Cemetery. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
