Description	:	Synneva was born Sept. 29, 1820 to Jo and Marie Bauge near Bergen, Norway. Synneva married Nils J. Bauge who was the son of Jo and Malinda at Handelon. Nils took the name of Bauge when he moved onto her family's farm. They lived at Bauge, in the Kvinnherad district, north of Etne and Skanevik. While living in Norway, they had 6 sons. Nils took the name of Bauge when he moved onto her family's farm. They lived at Bauge, in the Kvinnherad district, north of Etne and Skanevik. While living in Norway, they had 6 sons. In 1861, they emigrated to the U.S. with their 6 sons: Jo - 19, Thor - 16, Axel - 14, John - 11, Ole - 7 and Lars 2. On their 7 week voyage, there were 50 deaths. Soneva nursed Lars the whole time because she was afraid there would not be enough food on the ship to feed her son. While on the sailboat, a mother gave birth to a child and got sick. Synneva nursed the infant until the mother was well again. When they landed in Quebec, Lars had the measles and he and Synneva had to be in quarantine for 6 weeks. Nils and the older boys went on to Lisbon, Illinois while Synneva and Lars stayed in Quebec. Synneva and Nils had 2 more children in Illinois; Nels in 1863 and Marie in 1865. They lived in this area for 4 years. In 1866, Synneva and Nils and their 8 children moved to central Iowa north and east of Huxley, near Cambridge. They purchased 60 acres of land at $5 an acre. Her name is shown as Soneva on their gravestone. ===================================== A typed obituary: Mrs. N.J. Bauge Mrs. N.J. Bauge was born near Bergen, Norway, September 29 1820 and died November 11, 1911 at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 12 days at the home of her son, O.N. Bauge, 824 Clark Ave., Ames, Iowa. She was one of a family of twelve children all of whom are dead except the youngest brother who is now in his 81st year. From a family of nine she leaves seven children. six boys and one girl: Ole, Nels, Marie of Ames, Iowa: Joe of Dows, Iowa, Thor and Lars of Huxley, Iowa; John of Sandwich, Illinois. All of whom were present at the funeral. One boy died in infancy and one son, Axel, died in 1908 at the age of 61 years. She leaves 39 grandchildren and 81 great grandchildren. She was married to Nils J. Bauge October 29, 1850. They came to America in 1861 to Kendall County in Illinois, where they lived until the spring of 1866 when they moved to Iowa and settled on a farm in Story County, eight miles south of Ames where they lived until the death of her husband October 29th, 1890. Since that time she had made her home with her son O.N. Bauge where has had the most faithful care and nursing by her only daughter, Miss Marie Bauge. Funeral services were held at the Bauge residence Monday morning at 10:30 conducted by the Rev. Jay Kirkendall and the Rev. Sheveland of the Lutheran Church at Huxley. The Methodist church quartette sang "Safe In the Arms of Jesus" and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and Mrs. Conway sang "It Is Well With My Soul." Interment was made in the Palistine Lutheran Cemetery near Huxley. Among those here to attend the funeral services were: Mrs. John Donhowe, Story City; Nellie Boyd, Eldora, Iowa; Minnie Boyd and John Boyd, Sandwich, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bauge, Dows, Iowa; Lew Tegland, Gilbert and Mrs. Riley Ritchie, of Allerton, Iowa. ==========================================
