He came to Nebraska at the age of 12 years and was engaged in farming in Burt county for 54 years, 52 of which were spent on the same farm. He came to Nebraska at the age of 12 years and was engaged in farming in Burt county for 54 years, 52 of which were spent on the same farm. In 1888 Mr. Gammel was united in marriage with Effie May Rule at Herman. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary May 8, 1943. He was an honest and upright citizen and had many friends. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Effie May Gammel, his daughters, Glen Thrasher [sic] of Princeton, Idaho; Alice Bowen, San Diego, Calif., Ruth Redding, Cleone Redding and Helen Hathaway of Portland, Oregon; Pauline Messner, Vancouver, Wash.; and two sons, Dallas of Craig, and Gerald of Vancouver, Wash. Short funeral services were held at the St. John's Funeral Home at Portland, Oregon on Monday, November 1, and the last rites were held at the Schafer and Peck Funeral Home at Tekamah on Friday, November 5, Mrs. W.T. Poucher sang two selections, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "The Old Rugged Cross," amid many beautiful flowers, a silent testimony of love and esteem in which the deceased was held by his many friends, acquaintances and relatives. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Gammel and Mrs. Vera Eller of Columbus, Don Gammel of Shelton, Mrs. Etta Morrell and Mrs. Herman Long of Pender, Mrs. Russell McDonald and Mr. and Mrs. Prentiss Smith of Blair, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Samson, Mrs. Don Perazzo and Mrs. Harold Gerch of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kiefer, Mrs. Giles Cleveland and Mrs. Melvin Stromquist of Lyons. The pallbearers were Virgil Clifford, Ernest Elmquist, Mae Ervin, Joe Entrekin, Virgil Smith and Orrin Smith.
