Burial will be at the Hecla City Cemetery. Talena Margaret (Malpert) Krause was born March 21, 1917 at home east of Hecla, SD to Jacob and Margaret (Hohlen) Malpert. She was the youngest of thirteen children, nine brothers and three sisters. She attended the Pearson school east of Hecla. At the age of thirteen, her father Jacob passed away and the remainder of the family farmed a few years before she moved to Forbes, ND with her mother and sister to work on a farm. Talena was attending a dance in Guelph, ND and met Clarence Diederich Krause whom she married September 11, 1940. They lived on the Melvin Newman farm for seven months before moving and buying the Zeller farm west of Hecla. In 1942, Talena's mother Margaret came to live with them until her death on June 26, 1964. Clarence and Talena were blessed with eight children, six girls and two boys. Talena was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed horseback riding, sewing, baking, gardening, crossword puzzles and was an accurate markswoman. Her family benefited from her busy hands mending, sewing dresses as well as cheerleading uniforms, formals, etc. After Clarence's death January 17, 1994, Talena moved from the farm into Hecla, where she resided until becoming a resident of the Oakes Good Samaritan Society in 2004 until her death on November 23, 2009. Talena is survived by 7 children, Beverly Elsen, Dorothy (Alan) Schroeder, Donald (LuWanna) Krause, Patricia (Richard) Bell, Sharon (Lonnie) White, Norman Krause, Sandra (Craig Tozer) Krause; son-in-law, Bruce Gillespie; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandsons, two step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. Talena was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence, 9 brothers, Alke, Claus, Theodore, baby brother Remmer, Herman, John, Jacob, Herbert and Reinhardt, 3 sisters, Lucy Boffin, Tena Malpert and Anna Willem; a daughter, Carol Pfutzenreuter Gillespie, great-grandsons, Alex and Allen Elsen, two sons-in-law, Larry Pfutzenreuter and John Elsen, sisters-in-law, Nora and Leona Malpert; brothers-in-law Floren Willem and Jack Boffin.
