This will come as a shock to a great number of loving friends and acquaintances, as Mrs. Bohnett had been enjoying her usual good health and had been planning on starting a motor trip this morning. Mrs. Bohnett was born in Campbell in 1855, and 46 years ago was married to Joseph Bohnett, a pioneer orchardist of the valley and who is still active in the different growers associations of the valley. Besides her husband she leaves 11 children to more her loss and 15 grandchildren, all of who feel deeply the loss of a loving mother and grandmother. The children are: George Enos, Louis D., Ralph C., William Calvin, Belle Grace, Lois G., Floyd O., and K. U. Bohnett, Mrs. Mary A. Evans, Mrs. Eva Pearl Powers and Mrs. Hattie A. Gardner. From: San Jose Mercury News, published as San Jose Mercury Herald; Date: 08-13-1920; Issue: 44; Page: 10; Location: San Jose, California CAMPBELL Special to the Mercury Herald CAMPBELL, Aug. 12 – The funeral of Mrs. Tamar Bohnett yesterday at the family home on Los Gatos road was attended by neighbors and friends and Grange members in great numbers eager to pay respect to a beloved woman and to show sympathy for the bereaved members of an honored family. Less than an hour's illness terminated a life of 65 beautiful years, all of which were passed in this neighborhood. Mrs. Bohnett has been a devoted mother of a large family, by whom her loss is deeply mourned. In recent years she had taken a very active interest in the Grange, which order very appropriately had charge of the last rites for their departed sister. At the services at the house appreciative tributes were spoken by Mrs. Ida Clendenning of Orchard City Grange and the Rev. George E. Atkinson, former pastor of the Congregational church here, and Amos Williams of San Jose sang amid a profusion of exquisite floral offerings which banked two rooms. The burial service of the Grange ritual was used at the cemetery whither the remains were followed by an unusually long procession. The 34 relatives, who were present for the occasion, were Joseph Bohnett, husband of the deceased, who is a well known rancher here, and six sons and five daughters with the families of several, including 15 grandchildren. The sons are Enos Bohnett, an engineer at the Aromas quarries; L. D. Bohnett, and attorney of San Jose and former member of the legislature; Ralph, fruit buyer for Rosenberg Bros. And a rancher as well; Calvin, buyer for the Ainsley Packing Co.; Floyd, conducting the home ranch besides his own near by, and Karl, rancher, Coyote. Two daughters, Grace, a nurse and Lois, employed in the law office of their brother, L. D., live at home. The others are Mrs. E. A. Powers of Chico, Mrs. E. O. Evans of Campbell and Mrs. Herbert Gardner of Campbell. Five years ago she had suffered a stroke of paralysis followed by another a few years later. But up to the time of her death she was active and apparently well. The fatal illness lasted about 20 minutes before she peacefully and wholly without pain breathed her last. WAS PIONEER RESIDNET Tamer Ione Barker was born at Milliken Corners, April 4, 1855, but moved with her parents when quite young to the neighborhood in which she died. She married Joseph Bohnett, October 4, 1874, nearly 46 years ago. Besides her husband, 11 children survive her: Enos, of Aramis; Louis D. of San Jose, Ralph Calvin, Floyd, Lois and Grace, of Campbell; Mary Evans and Hattie Gardner of Campbell; Pearly Powers of Chico, and Karl of Kings county. Besides these, 15 grandchildren, a brother, Calvin Barker, and several half brothers and sisters mourn her loss. Mrs. Bohnett's life was one of loyal devotion to duty wherever her lot was cast. Her family, all grown to noble manhood and womanhood is a fitting testimonial of her beautiful, unselfish character. WAS GRANGE MEMBER She received her early education in the Cambrian school. When the Orchard City Grange was organized, Mrs. Bohnett joined as a charter member and was most loyal and efficient in her connections with this organization. She held the office of Ceres at the time of her death. She was also a member of the Pomona Grange, of the state Grange and of the national Grange. As a wife, mother, friend and neighbor, she was beloved by all and her passing leaves a vacancy that will be very hard to fill. The funeral, which took place Wednesday morning, was well attended. Flowers filled the room in which the casket rested. The services were held in the new home at Campbell in which Mr. And Mrs. Bohnett hoped to spend many more happy years together. GRANCE FUNERAL SERVICES. The funeral services were held in the following order: Song, "Some Day We May Understand, " by Amos Williams; prayer, scripture reading and remarks by the Rev. George Atkinson; remarks on Mrs. Bohnett's work and efficient membership in the Grange, by Mrs. Ida M. Clendenning of Orchard City Grange; sone, Amos Williams. The burial was at Oak Hill cemetery under the auspices of Orchard City Grange which conducts Grange burial services. The following acted as pall bearers: Stanlay B. Smith, H. V. Archibald, E. K. Clendenning, Curtis Hanger, W. H. Woodbury, and Louis Shelley.
