Ted 'Teddy' Thayer Thursday, August 2, 2007 March 11, 1924-July 31, 2007 GRAND ISLAND -- Ted "Teddy" Thayer, 83, died Tuesday (July 31, 2007) at the Veterans Hospital at Grand Island. He was born March 11, 1924, at Maywood, to Ora and Bernice Thayer. He served in the U.S. Navy from May 1942 until his discharge in June of 1947. That same year, he married Maureen Falls. After his military service, he farmed in the Dickens area until 1951. He and Maureen operated a grocery store in Dickens until 1955. He returned to farming south of Dickens until 1975 when he then was employed by the A.S.C.S. office for 10 years. He later owned and operated Ted's Place in Wallace. He was an avid volunteer for the R.S.V.P. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen; his son, Mark; a sister, Eva; a brother-in-law, Hap Fletcher; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Thayer. Survivors include his daughter, Teena and husband, Craig Davisson Melvin of North Platte; a sister, Devona and husband, Clarence Latimer of North Platte; a brother, Lester Thayer of Dickens, five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at the Dickens Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island or to the Nebraska Children's Home. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
