He graduated from Gering High School in 1948. Upon graduation Ted enlisted in the U. S. Navy serving on the USS Capitaine, a submarine based out of San Francisco, Calif., as a machinists mate. He was discharged in December 1949. Recalled to active duty during the Korean War, he served in the Aleutian Islands and Guam with the U.S. Naval Cargo Handling Battalion 2 until his discharge in 1953. Ted was united in marriage to Dorothy Olson June 27, 1954, in Gering. He operated the family farm/construction equipment business until his retirement in 1994. Ted was a member of the Central Church of Christ, Scotts Bluff Lodge 201 AF & AM, York and Scottish Rite bodies, Panhandle Shrine Club and the Scottsbluff Elks Lodge 1367. He served two terms on the Gering City Council, Northfield Villa Board and Oregon Trail Foundation. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Keitha and grandson Tommy Butler.
