Ted was born on Aug. 18, 1952, to Douglas and Wanda (Geelhart) Hoag in Great Falls. His father worked for the railroad, so the family traveled extensively for his job and lived in various places throughout his childhood. Ted graduated from Minot High School and attended Minot State University before moving to Billings, where he went to EMC. Ted met Joan Daly at EMC and they married in 1991. He became stepfather to her daughter Caitlin. Even though Ted and Joan divorced, Caitlin remained a very important part of his life until his passing. Ted met Susan Cecil and they enjoyed 12 years together, where he accepted her daughter Amanda Cecil into his life. He was also “dad” to friends Cassie Bronson and Jennifer Thomason. Even though Ted didn’t have children of his own, no one would have known that Caitlin, Amanda and Cassie weren’t his blood. Ted had a heart of gold and loved the girls dearly! Ted was an avid golfer throughout his entire life. He and his brother Rex golfed together for many years, entering tournaments and winning some along the way. He could also be found practicing his chipping and putting at the Par 3 with his brother or all alone. He was a member at Laurel Golf Course, where he loved to play with his buddies and Rex’s friends who retired from the railroad. His work as a carpenter was sought out in Billings. He operated Round Town General Contacting and, later, he began “flipping” houses. He purchased homes in Roundup and Billings, fixed them up with his skills, and turned them into rentals. The girls were always there to help him clean the rentals, paint and freshen them up, as only girls can! Ted will be dearly missed by his brother, Rex (January) Hoag of Billings and their daughter Sunny; sister Laura (Steve) Meyer of Park City; his “girls,” Caitlin Miars (her children Kyrie and Avalyn), Amanda Cecil (her children Atlas and Silas), Cassie Bronson (her children Rosalee and Roscoe), Jennifer Thomason (her children Emerie and Meika). All the kids knew him as Grandpa Ted and loved him so much! He is also survived by his lifelong friend John Bedford and many others too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Wanda. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Burial will follow at Mountview Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Ted’s name to Habitat For Humanity.
