He was born on September 4, 1933, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the only son of Theodore and Ruth (Raxter) Pethtel. He attended schools in Pittsburg and graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in June of 1959 with a master’s degree following in 1970. Read More	Ted Lee Pethtel 04 September 1933 - 26 June 2015 U.S. Veteran Ted Lee Pethtel, age 81, of Warsaw, MO, passed away at his home Friday, June 26, 2015. He was born on September 4, 1933, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the only son of Theodore and Ruth (Raxter) Pethtel. He attended schools in Pittsburg and graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in June of 1959 with a master’s degree following in 1970. Though he left the Pittsburg area in 1963, it has always had a special place in his heart. On August 10, 1961, he married Alice Kennedy in Pittsburg, KS and she survives of the home. He jokingly called the union, “the longest heavy weight fight in history.” He was inducted into the United States Air Force on February 2, 1953 and served active duty as crew chief for jets in Delaware until February 1, 1957. Following 10 years as a civilian, Ted served in the reserves and the air national guard in St. Joseph, MO until he was retired from the armed forces on September 4, 1993 with the rank of Master Sgt. Ted had varied work experience as maintenance/building supervisor, construction worker and other jobs that he performed with the strong work ethic instilled by his father. His greatest joy was teaching and coaching which he always regretted leaving when he retired from the Sedalia #200 School District in 1996. The teacher-student bond has been experienced over the years by many former students who express their affection for him. Ted enjoyed traveling, woodworking, music, fishing, and just sitting on the deck of his Truman Lake home and watching the birds and boats on the water. He especially enjoyed time with his family and friends. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved time spent with his circle of friends celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. He had a wonderful life and his journey here is now complete. He is preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Donald Batchelder and granddaughter, Hannah Rose Dodd. Other survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Krutz of Overland Park, KS and her daughter, Stephanie; Kirsten Dodd and her husband, Dusty, and their daughter, Rebecca of Boone, Iowa; two sister-in-laws, Norma Gregerson and her husband, Dwight, of Neosho, MO, Rose Giffin and her husband, Joe, of Radley, Kansas; one brother-in-law, Rex Colvin, and his wife, Joanie, of Pittsburg, KS, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Ted L. Pethtel will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO, with military honors to follow. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M., prior to services. Interment of his cremains will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS, at a later date. Memorials may be made to Twin Lakes Hospice in care of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
