This is what Eugene Landreth has about Benjamin and his family in his book, the 23rd Edition: In 1823, Benjamin's father Stephen Landreth, made him a deed for 75 acres on Elk Creek near the Virginia North Carolina border. (a mile from Stephen's home) In 1824 Benjamin bought 100 acres on Elk Creek from Simeon Taylor. They left Ashe county, NC in 1842 for Keokuk county, Iowa. Benjamin died before 1850 and Temperance died in the summer of 1862 in Keokuk county, Iowa. Their sons Squire Benjamin and and William left Keokuk county in 1853 for Oregon by wagon train after years of gold hunting, Indian fighting and working as a grocer. They were in Portland, Oregon in 1861. Squire Benjamin Landreth finally settled in Reardon, Washington where some of his descendants still live on his old homestead. Benjamin and Temperance's son Joel Landreth, became a stonemason and built buildings in San Francisco, California and in Kansas City, Missouri. Their daughter Mary, married John Ham while they were still in North Carolina but after her father died in Iowa they moved to Nebraska.
