Description	:	Teresa Ann Schepers, 89, of Fairmont, a loving wife and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 31, 2008, at Fairview Manor after being recently diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer. Teresa was born Dec. 17, 1919, in York, a daughter of Frank and Mary (Beide) Neville, and the second of eight children. Growing up, her family lived and farmed along Beaver Creek in York County where she attended a one-room country school. She later graduated from Fairmont High School in 1937 and soon thereafter married Francis Schepers on Sept. 15, 1938. They were married 53 years. In addition to raising a family of six children (Sandra, Karen, Larry, Dan, Tim and Mark), Teresa worked at the family business, Schepers' Meat Market. She followed her sons in their many sports activities and encouraged her children in their pursuit of higher education. Teresa also labored tirelessly to feed the family's summer harvest crew, who cut wheat from Oklahoma to North Dakota for two decades in the 1950s and 60s. In retirement, Teresa found enjoyment in traveling to parts of the United States and Western Europe with her husband, Francis. They also spent time wintering in Texas. After his death in 1991, she remained in Fairmont as the matriarch of the Schepers family, enjoying the company of family and friends on the back porch of her house and most especially the entertainment of her grandchildren. Throughout her life, Teresa was charitable to countless people and civic organizations with her time, heart and financial support. She was active in the Fairmont community, being a member of the Happy Hour FCE Club since 1961, a lifelong member of the Women's Club, a participant and board member at the senior center, and a worthy adversary at the local and surrounding bridge clubs. Teresa was also an avid reader of books, especially biographies of women, and was an assuming poet in her own right. She also maintained a captive interest in politics, being a staunch Democrat. A devout Catholic, Teresa was a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Church in McCool and a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was a firm believer in the power of prayer with her favorite entreaty, the Rosary. She also enjoyed healthy religious debates with each presiding priest. Survivors include her brothers and sisters, Vera Philben, San Luis Obispo, Calif., Ray and Bill and wife Arlene Neville, Grand Island, Dolores and husband Bill Babcock, Santa Margarita, Calif.; children, Sandra Schepers, Fairmont, Karen Longin, Seattle, Wash., Larry and wife Kathy Schepers, Marquette, Dan and wife Barb Schepers, Minden, Tim and wife Barb Schepers, Fairmont, Mark and wife Sue Schepers, Pleasanton, Calif.; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from St. Stephen's Catholic Church on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 with Father Tom Kuffel officiating. Nancy Jo Galusha accompanied Greg Rehm who sang "Ave Maria." Greg Rehm accompanied the congregation who sang "Morning Has Broken," "Gift of Finest Wheat," "Taste and See" and "On Eagle's Wings." Casket bearers were Mike Schepers, Eric Schepers, Matt Schepers, Brad Schepers, Andrew Schepers and Scott Schepers. Honorary casket bearers were Gina Giombetti, Chris Cichon, Tony Giombetti, Stephanie Wiese, Tracy Schottland, Kimberly Snodgrass, Jessie Schepers, Kiley Wall, Natisha Giombetti, Dylan Schepers, Kevin Longin, Alisha Reich, Teri Longin, Anne Longin and Karl Longin. Interment was in the Fairmont Catholic Cemetery with Farmer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's Church, McCool; the Fairmont Library; Fairview Manor; and the Fairmont Rescue Unit. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Fairmont Rescue Unit, the staffs at Fillmore County Hospital and Medical Center, Fairview Manor and Tabitha Health Care Services, and to the many friends who sent food, flowers and cards and memorials.
