In memory of Terry L Hofer, husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, friend, businessman, traveler, community member…you have left a legacy of genuineness and generosity. Terry was born November 26, 1949, to Jake and Betty Hofer in Huron, South Dakota. He attended his first six years of school in Yale and final six in Hitchcock where he graduated in 1968. He graduated from Huron College in 1972. On December 27, 1969, during a prolific snowstorm he married Marilyn Gilbert of Hitchcock. In 1979 he and his dad built Huron Custom Meats and Terry continued to own and operate the business until 2002. It was a point of pride for Terry that Custom Meats is still a viable business in Huron almost forty years later. Terry and Marilyn lived and raised their three children, Steve, Brad, and Marcia in Huron until 2005. In that time Terry attended Bethesda Church, served as a baseball little league coach, youth basketball coach, Huron County Club board officer, and South Dakota Association of Meat Processors Board of Directors officer. He waterskied and fished with the SS Minnow and hunted in Beadle County and at Blue Sky Farms. Basketball, track, football, golf, all-terrain vehicles -- anyone who knew Terry in any part of his life knew how much he enjoyed sports as both a participant and a spectator. Even more than sports, Terry valued learning and traveling. He and Marilyn made memories with their kids on short trips to places such as Minneapolis and the Black Hills and long road trips to Oregon, Tennessee, Florida, and Washington, DC. After their empty nest, the two of them wintered in Arizona, traveled to all fifty states, and made a couple of European trips. Terry leaves behind his wife, of Aberdeen; sons, S. Hofer of Ozark, Missouri and B. Hofer of Tea, South Dakota; daughter, M. Case of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren; siblings, T. Hofer of Aberdeen, K. Bell of Monmouth, Oregon, Colleen Jark of Aberdeen; a host of nephews and nieces always eager to hear the latest Terry story; and a multitude of both long time and recently made friends awaiting the next Hofer sighting. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Jacob in 1988; brothers-in-law, Vern Jark in 2006 and Mike Gilbert in 2015.
